Areas of Use

RSBAC is useful on any server or client system which needs more than the very basic protection than standard Linux can provide. As a matter of fact, any production system, including desktop and embedded devices require a decent level of protection, as it is today's big problem in the software industry. However, we will present you a few good examples where RSBAC fits well.

Compatibility

RSBAC has been tested and reported to be working with many Kernel options, other patches and separate software. Some of these are listed here. However, no warranty can be given that these reports are correct, or that the combination will work as expected on a given system.

Access Control Framework

First goal is to define a basis, for all access control models to come.
Design and implement a framework that provides a good infrastructure for the implementation of access control models.

RSBAC Features

Note: This document list the features provided by RSBAC. In other words, this is what you get by running a RSBAC kernel.

Note: Currently non ordered, incomplete listing

	* Read-only mode (no attribute writing, for testing)
	* Transactions support (policy changes can be made atomically)

History

The RSBAC project was started by Amon Ott as his master thesis during 1996-97.

When it started, RSBAC's aim was to bring a standard framework for access control on Linux, that anyone could use to implement their security models. However, RSBAC has been its own best contributor of security modules over time.
